It is not an asbestos survey, a roofing service, or a guarantee that every artex ceiling can be skimmed.
Textured coatings (artex)
Some older textured ceilings and walls were finished with coatings that may contain asbestos. This site does not test materials and does not tell you to scrape them. There is a dedicated page on Artex removal and covering in Beccles.
If your ceiling is textured:
- say so on the form
- do not sand or scrape it yourself
- let the plasterer advise (often overboarding is discussed)
- specialist testing sits outside this introduction
A plasterer may decline the job if they are not happy with the condition.
What to include in an enquiry
- Town or full postcode
- Which rooms
- Ceiling height, if you know it
- Loft hatch, beams, or a hanging light you want kept
- Cracks, bowing, stains, or texture
- Whether the leak (if any) is repaired
- Stairs and whether furniture can be moved
- Parking
Working overhead is slower than plastering a wall. Height and access change the quote.

After the work
Ceilings show daylight. A skim needs time to dry before paint. The plasterer should say when you can decorate. Coving, if you want it, is usually discussed once the ceiling line is known.
